Our tale begins in Hunsford with what could arguably be considered the world’s worst marriage proposal. That part is close to canon, but that is the only small piece of this book which is. In London Jane Bennet has an epiphany which leaves her open to finding true love with a man not a boy. She meets a man in the park across from the Gardiner’s house in London. Will she find what she is looking for with him? Is he a man who is able to support a wife? Colonel Richard Fitzwilliam pulls the reason for his cousin’s melancholy from him in the time between the proposal and the delivery of the letter. The Colonel takes Darcy to task for his behaviour, especially allowing Wickham to prey on the citizens of another town. He goes to Meryton to confront the miscreant. What are the effects of his visit? In the meanwhile, Darcy delivers his famous (or infamous depending on your point of view) letter to Elizabeth the morning after the horrendous proposal. Does Elizabeth accept the letter, and if so does she read it? Hearing ‘you are the last man in the world I could ever be prevailed upon to marry’ playing over and over again in his head, Darcy is despondent. He meets his cousin, Anne de Bourgh, riding in her phaeton in the groves. What is said between the two, which ends up making Anne The First Mrs. Darcy? How will Lady Catherine react to her dream being fulfilled? What will Elizabeth feel when she discovers that like Mr. Collins and Charlotte, a man who proposed to her proposed to another the day after her refusal. Will ODC eventually find their HEA together? Join me as these, and many other questions are answered.
